What is the Leaky Homes Loft upgrade?
Around a quarter of heat loss occurs through the roof in an uninsulated home.
Energy Action Redhill and Reigate has identified that many homes in Reigate & Banstead do not have the recommended loft insulation of 270 mm and we are on a mission to change this.
Thanks to funding from UK Power Networks, we are offering up to 6 rolls of free loft insulation to qualifying homes in council tax bands A-D. (If you are in a higher band we can offer subsidised loft insulation: for council tax bands E-F £10 per roll; for G-I £20 per roll)
We are running special events in areas where we have found a high number of homes with poor loft insulation. However, the Loft Upgrade project is available to all homes across East Surrey.
How do I take part?
Click on the red Book Loft Check button and pick a convenient day or evening. We will confirm the date with you and the name of the lead Energy Champion.
During your Loft Check the Energy Champion will assess the level of your existing loft insulation and check that your loft is suitable for adding more insulation. The Energy Champion can also suggest other simple energy-efficiency measures for your home and offer free items from our Smart pack. The visit will take around 30 minutes.

If your loft is suitable, we will agree a convenient delivery date. Once you receive your insulation it will be your responsibility to install it. (We will provide some guidance for self-installation). We ask that you send us a photo of the insulation in your loft within 3 months to show that it has been used. That's it!
FAQs
i don't live in a target area, can i still take part?
Yes - loft upgrades are available to all homes in East Surrey with suitable lofts. Please go ahead and register for a loft check. You may need to wait slightly longer for a loft check appointment, but we will aim to confirm a date within 3 weeks of registering.
My home is in a higher council tax band, do i qualify?
Yes - Please note the level of support we can offer is based on your Council tax band. We can provide up to 6 rolls of insulation as follows:

Bands A to D - free of charge

Bands E to F - £10 per roll

Bands G to I - £20 per roll

This includes delivery costs plus mask, goggles and gloves.​ All council tax bands are making savings as the retail price is £31 per roll. If you are not sure of your Council Tax band you can check it here: https://www.gov.uk/council-tax-bands
What type of loft insulation will i receive?
We generally offer Knauf Insulation Super Top Up Loft Roll. Each roll is 200mm thick and covers around 5.6m². (6 rolls is sufficient for the average semi-detached). It is a non-combustible Glass Mineral Wool roll, designed for use in cold lofts.
I've not heard of Energy Action redhill and reigate before, how can i be sure this is genuine?
Energy Action Redhill and Reigate is a non-profit, community benefit society. Our work is supported by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council - we are featured on their website on their "My Sustainable Home" page. We also work closely with the established environmental group Zero Carbon Guildford and are featured on their Home Energy Survey page. Energy Action Redhill and Reigate is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. registration number RS008803.
I'm not able to install the loft insulation myself, can energy action arrange installation?
Unfortunately we cannot arrange installation of the loft insulation rolls - this will be your responsibility. We can provide guidance and links to videos on how to fit the insulation. Can you ask friends or family to help? If not, then ask around for a recommendation for a Handyperson/Builder or try using a site like CheckaTrade to get some quotes.
We will discuss whether you are eligible to receive loft insulation through the Great British Insulation Scheme (delivered by other organisations). If this is the case then you would be able to get the loft insulation installed (although you may still need to clear your loft first)
